Centers For Disease Control In US To Hold First Ever Obesity Conference

It seems crazy that the Centers for Disease Control in the world’s fattest nation, America, has only just got round to organising a conference to discuss issues concerning the prevention of obesity and how to control its spread. The conference which will be held at the end of July and which is called ‘Weight of the Nation’ is being structured so that a forum of weight loss experts will be able to examine weight loss policies and ideas that have already been used successfully.
It could be argued that very little has actually been successful when it comes to the control of obesity in America and that despite government pledges and funding for various weight loss programs there has actually been no slowdown in the obesity statistics over the last decade. Critics have said that this conference will be no more than a talking shop and that it is unlikely that any serious concrete proposals to tackle the American obesity problem will come out from it. Over 30 percent of all adults in America suffer from obesity meaning that they have a BMI of 30+ and around 65 percent are overweight with a BMI of 25+.
Despite being the world’s wealthiest nation and having very good health care available, the American people are becoming chronically unhealthy and this is having a big impact on productivity as well as increasing the health care costs of America.

The Centers for Disease Control needs to take stock of the situation and realise that the most effective strategy for disease control in America would be to get people slim.
